Happy Mothers’ Day! Like many people currently bunkered down in their house, I had a long chat with my Mum. It’s funny, I haven’t lived at home since I was 16 yet in these strange times I felt as far away as I think I ever have. I can’t imagine I’m alone with that feeling. We also managed to set Trish up with a 3-way call to her Mum and sister which worked quite well.
The end of our first week officially on lockdown was a miserable one in terms of the weather. The forecast for the week ahead isn’t great either so I hope everyone here in Spain is managing to keep their spirits up. I worry about the mental health of those living in confinement in small apartments with little natural light or outdoor space.
The routine continues to be routine! The virus continues to tighten its grip on Spain while we look on with horror at people flocking to the UK beaches on a sunny day. Stay away from each other people. This shit is real!!
We watched some daytime TV which could be a slippery slope! I really enjoyed Ainsley’s Mediterranean Cookbook but Trish thought there was too much cooking in it and not enough about the locations. The clue is surely in the word “Cookbook” isn’t it???!!!
I had to do some prep for work too. My classes resume on Monday so I’d best be ready. I’m teaching online delivering aviation English classes to air traffic controllers in the Middle East and pilots from the Far East. Due to contractual obligations that’s all I can tell you. It’s not quite “I can tell you but then I’d have to kill you” but it does make it sound rather more exciting than it is!!
We’re still keeping up with events online but trying hard to reduce the amount of news we consume. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing, and there’s most definitely such thing as too much of a bad thing. There you go, a legitimate sentence using the word “thing” four times! Oh yes, humour, and here’s my favourite of the day.
Oh, and who can forget the headline of the day? The much-loved Deerfield American Legion hosted “Testicle Festival” has had to be shelved following coronavirus fears.
It’s nice to see some sanity saving online initiatives. Hopefully we’ll get to join in with one of the virtual pub quizzes or book clubs soon. Unfortunately they either clash with dinner time (routine is very important!) or our evening of TV viewing. For example, we couldn’t miss The Good Karma Hospital or Race Across The World, could we?!
I’ll leave you with a super cool wine label. The wine was pretty good too, and comes from the Valencia region. This delicious and funky bottle of Canallas comes from the Arráez bodega which is located about an hour’s drive inland from our house. Maybe a visit is in order when all of this is over! Spanish wine is about much more than Rioja people. Time to expand your horizons and test you pallette!
